Neurofeedback: What is it and how does it work?

Neurofeedback is a cutting edge, breakthrough treatment for regulating brain networks. In our Neurofeedback Clinic in Castle Rock, the process starts with a Brain Map; an EEG, which is a comprehensive analysis of the patterns of electrical activity of the brain. This directly reflects brain metabolism and function. By measuring a range of frequencies and the power and balance of those frequency bandwidths across the regions of the brain, clinical correlations to your individual brain function can be made in the areas of cognition, memory, focus, movement control, attention, energy, mood, and nervous system regulation.

Neurofeedback is FDA approved and meets the highest criteria for evidence-based practice. It has been cross validated by both PET and fMRI, and is used by Universities, Medical Centers, Research Institutes, Clinics, and individuals worldwide. It has been in use for 40 years with well documented effects in over 2000 peer reviewed scientific publications

During the brain map qEEG, data is obtained with a BrainMaster 19 channel digital EEG recording system using the International 10-20 system of electrode placement. To ensure the most accurate data is acquired, standardized techniques are utilized, so impedance and external artifact are lowered. Data is filtered, the recording is edited to further remove artifact, and a quantitative spectral analysis is rendered to provide the most accurate brain map.
Color coded simulations of electrical activity are produced. Standard Brain Map Analysis software compares your data to age-matched normative database and rates your results with a color scale.

Your brain map is analyzed, and along with your goals the data is used to develop neurofeedback treatment protocols. During the neurofeedback sessions, EEG signals are sent to the computer, which controls the audio and visual display on the screen where you are watching a movie! Thresholds are set in the computer, so when your brain shifts to the desired powers in the frequencies we are training, the movie plays brightly and the reward sounds are consistent. When the brain shifts back to its old pattern, the movie gets dim and the reward sounds slow or stop. Due to the brain’s innate desire to see the screen, and through the process of operant conditioning, brain activity changes to meet the goals set in the training protocol.

As you continue with Neurofeedback training sessions, your brain becomes more regulated. Cognitive efficiency, energy, focus, attention and mood regulation gradually improve.

Our patients receive a discounted rate relative to other community providers. We can also extend this rate to your friends and family if they meet the selection criteria for our practice. We are the only Neurofeedback Clinic in Colorado dedicated to providing this service to those with movement disorders, mild cognitive impairment, migraine, and concussion.
